Parenting by Example: Imagination, Creativity, & Relaxation

When children grow up in a world that is full of electronics and other distractions it can be difficult for them to use their imagination. As parents, we need to encourage our kids in thinking outside of their current surroundings to explore other avenues. Let’s face it, without imagination and creativity, the world would be a much grimmer existence. You’re job as the mom or dad is to give your kids the green light to use their imaginations. Here’s how you do just that.

First, if you’re a busy parent like most of us, take the time out to explore your own imagination. Meditate, daydream or just lie quietly with eyes closed and erase all day to day stress. Encourage the kids to try this as well.  Everyone can benefit from a little quiet time. Allow new thoughts to come in and old ones to move out. Think of nature, taking a ride on your bike or even planting a garden. The point here is to allow your mind to be free enough to get your imagination flowing.

Next, set a good example.  We are just as guilty of spending too much time on our devices.  Kids notice this. Make a rule to take a break from all electronic devices for a period each day. That includes you! Since we spend way too much time looking at Facebook and email, and a plethora of other interrupting activity, it’s hard to come out with a clear mind. By learning to go without, you’ll be gaining within.

Other than distractions caused by mobile devices, iPads and the like, try to avoid anything that makes you anxious. Anxiety can cloud your imagination making things impossible to flow gently in and out. You can avoid this type of mind boggle, by putting on some old music or just jotting down what comes to your mind. The trick here is to quiet the anxiousness and fill up your mind with new and interesting thoughts. No room for worry here.

Besides letting go of restlessness, take the time to try new things. Whether you explore a new food or a different way to do your hair, the idea here is to just do it! Let your kids see the excitement in you when you try something new.  If you don’t like it or fail, laugh it off and show the kids that it’s okay.  Embrace these teachable moments. How can you teach your kids to develop creative and adventurous minds if you don’t know how to first?

Now that you know the secrets to sparking your own imagination, try these things on your kids.

Creating Great Childhood Memories with these South Florida Bounce Ideas

While we all like to take a walk down memory lane, today’s families seem to be striving for the time, more than creating a lifetime of family history that will never fade. Since we are all struggling with the day to day operations of life, it may seem a bit daunting to take a moment and remember what childhood is, as a non-perishable time of laughter and smiles. In this week’s blog, we help you re-create some of those childhood memories, South Florida Bounce style!

First, living in the moment is one of the best aspects life can offer us. Remember to put down your cell phones and pay attention to those around you. Have a pillow fight, bake some cookies, go to a movie together. Whatever the case may entail, be sure to take the time to stop and enjoy. Technology is a necessary evil, but you have the power to combat using that time that could be spent with your treasure of your kids.

Next, after snapping a bunch of pics with your cell phone, download them and get them prints made at a local Walmart and make a scrapbook. While it’s certainly nice to keep a collection of photos on your phone, scrapbooking can be special because you can make it a family activity.  Make that weekend getaway into a coffee table scrapbook that will spark conversations with friends and loved ones.

In addition to the scrapbooking and putting down that mobile device, why not have some fun with an old time favorite activity? Build a fort in your living room with blankets, chairs, and pillows. Follow up with a flashlight and telling some ghost stories over some warm buttered popcorn. It’s not about the money you spend it’s about the time that will make your kids remember what a great family they have.

Why not go retro and break out some vintage board games.  Make it a theme and encourage kids of all ages to embrace it. Your child will have just as much fun playing a game of Mousetrap as they would be burning up their video cards on X-box. Make it fun, change the rules, get creative and laugh!  Who knows, they may find the old-school way to be more intriguing.

The point here is to help you bring back some old school family fun and build new memories for you to keep forever.  Disconnect from the devices and reconnect with some good old fashioned fun.

Don’t forget to contact us if you’d like to organize your next family events such as a reunion or party.

Unique Gift Ideas for Girls & Boys Birthday Parties 2017

When it comes to your children, there may not be a lot of guessing on the type of gifts they want. Kids tend to be very vocal in letting parents know what they want as their first gift choices. But, for another child, it may be a bit more challenging. We’ve compiled a list of some of the hottest gift ideas for both boys and girls that might give you some grand ideas and look like a complete hero.

Girls 4-6

Pull up any Walmart or Target ad and your choices are overwhelming. However, some of the hottest trends you’ll find for girls between the ages of 4-6 is are Shopkins and anything from Disney’s movie “Frozen.” One tip to keep in mind is to contact the parents before purchasing these items since there may be a good chance they’ve already got them. Also, either one of these brands does offer a wide selection with this theme. Any young girl will be dazzled when opening these gifts as they are two of the biggest toys to sell this summer.

Girls 8-11

It seems like girls in the age category enjoy crafting. Bead kits can be found on places like Amazon, or your local craft store like Michaels. You really can’t go wrong with this type of gift at this age, as young girls enjoy working with their hands.

Girls 12-16

This age group is a bit trickier as this is also the time where gifts become pricey. If you’re looking to get a gift for a girl between 12-16, think about gift cards. Gift cards are always a good selection because the kid can buy what they want.

Boys 4-6

Kids between the age of 4-6 are practicing things like hand to eye coordination as well as their motor skills. These children tend to enjoy working with their hands and building things. Lego Blocks, toys with gears or pieces where they must think and make are most enjoyed. Another idea for your consideration is drawing or painting kits. Children of all ages love to be artistic, and at this age, their minds are free to imagine and explore. Art Boxes tend to be great presents for both boys and girls in this age category.

Boys 8-11

These little tikes are more advanced than the other the post-toddlers. They enjoy sports, video gaming and a variety of other activities. The key word is ‘active.’ This year we’ve seen many kids wanting Drones and Quadcopters to fly around. Although it’s a great gift, you may want to check with the parents as these toys can sometimes cause a problem.

Boys 12-16

This age group presents a little more challenge. But, one item that is flying off the shelves is GeekerCity’s Mini Flying RC Drone. This cool gadget changes colors, and it’s safe to use. The price point is excellent too under $20.

While these are just a few of the toys listed for boys and girls, there’s plenty of great ideas you can explore. We hope you find this blog helpful.

The Ideal Pajama Party for Kids

Who can forget the fond memories of your first pajama party? When it comes to being a kid, these are one of the most exciting events you’ll ever remember. As parents, it’s our job to be sure these sleep-over gatherings are safe, fun and memorable. In this blog, we point out how to throw the pajama party of a lifetime that’s also ideal for you.

Plan Your Child’s P.J. Party Carefully

When it comes to planning your child’s pajama party, plan carefully. Things like snacks, where to sleep and who to invite are part of what makes your son or daughters slumber party a success. Invite the wrong mix of kids, or leave the activities up to your kids and his or her friends could end in disaster. Involve your children when prepping for the gathering. Make a list of what the night will entail such as watching movies, playing games and serving snacks are all a part of the organization for a big success.

Designate a Time for Pick-Up and Delivery of Each Guest

Everyone in the neighborhood has that one kid who moves in temporarily. While one extra child may not seem all that bad, if 12 kids were hanging out at your house hours after the party is over, you may get a bit cramped. Be sure to facilitate appropriate times for pick up and drop off so you can get on with your life!

Think Outside of the Box or Your Child’s Bedroom

Sleeping arrangements can be ultra-fun and easy if you think outside of your child’s bedroom. Pitch a tent in the backyard, or on the living room floor, make tepees and use decorative lights to make it more festive, throw sleeping bags on the floor, whatever you do, be sure to make it special. You’ll be much happier as your kid’s room might have a chance at staying clean!

Planning any child’s birthday party can be fun and enjoyable when planned properly. Visit places like Pinterest and Martha Stewart for more details and ideas.
