Great Family Outdoor Vacations

You don’t have to go far in the great State of Florida to find a venue to enjoy a family outdoor vacation and it doesn’t mean packing up the SUV with camping gear and preparing for a siege by insects. There’s plenty to do outdoors and all families need to bring is a supply of sunblock.

Walt Disney World

This is the first venue that people think of for a family vacation and most head to the Magic Kingdom. Families can spend the day outside visiting with their favorite Disney characters, riding the Space Mountain rollercoaster, travel the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, explore the Haunted Mansion, and get wet on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

Captiva Island

Quiet and serene, it’s a prime location for gathering seashells, birdwatching and spending a leisurely day. For those that book with one of the many nearby resorts, there’s golf courses and tennis courts, pools, bike rentals and water sports.

Everglades National Park

It’s the biggest sub-tropical wilderness in the U.S., with ranger-led programs, trails for spotting wildlife, tram tours and airboat tours.

Fort Wilderness Resort

For a unique experience, try Disney’s campground. Campers can explore walking trails, bike, canoe and kayak. There’s plenty of swimming opportunities, horseback riding, fishing, wagon rides and arcades, along with tennis and basketball. Bring the RV or camp in a cabin.

Anna Maria Island

Slow down with the laid back pace of the island. Visitors can bike, fish, cruise the barrier island, snorkel, explore a pirate ship, or take a dolphin-watching tour.

So Much to Do

There are dozens of family vacation opportunities in Florida where every member of the family can get outside, explore natural wonders and enjoy day trips to a myriad of amusements. Playing in the outdoors doesn’t mean giving up modern comforts and conveniences.

8 Must-See Superhero Movies

Love Avengers Endgame? Here’s 8 Other Must-See Superhero Movies

The superhero movie genre is one of the biggest in Hollywood and it’s not just comic book fans that eagerly await each new release. They’re a good way to escape into a universe where the good guys win. They satisfy the needs and desires of people seeking social justice. They’re also just good fun.

An exceptional crop of superhero movies was released during the past few years that have found favor, but not all superheroes are appreciated as such at first glance. The following are superhero movies that everyone should see that span the decades.

Thor: Ragnarok

With the release of the film in 2017, fans were treated to a comic book superhero that was the embodiment of Norse mythology, amazing special effects, great music, and a rare helping of humor.

Black Panther

Starring Chadwick Boseman, the 2018 film was the first of the genre to feature a black superhero. Set in a fantastically advanced culture, the character’s female guards absolutely stole the scenes in which they were featured.

Blade

An oldie but a goodie, the film features Wesley Snipes as an ancient Dhampir that hunts down evil vampires to protect the human race. It was the first in a trilogy and its success provided motivation for Marvel’s following succession of superhero movies.

Host an End of the School Year Party with a Waterslide

The end of the school year means moms get to sleep in and kids are happy to see the end of homework for the next three months. To truly celebrate, try hosting an end of the school year party with an inflatable waterslide.

Kids of all ages love water slides and South Florida Bounce has more than 60 waterslides in multiple themes to accommodate youngsters of all ages. Kids don’t get all the fun, though, parents can use them, too. South Florida Bounce is the home of the “Hurricane,” a 40-foot tall water slide that’s the tallest free-standing water slide available.

It doesn’t matter whether youngsters are fans of pirates or superheroes, options are available to make anyone happy. Smaller, 13-foot water slides are offered for younger kids that allow them to have all the fun of the bigger slides. Individuals can choose a stand-alone water slide or create a complete wet and dry wonderland with bounce houses, obstacle courses, interactive games, and carnival games.

Water slides have become one of the most popular party features across the nation. They’re a great way to beat the heat and are especially welcome for homes without a pool. They provide all the fun of a waterpark outing without leaving the comfort of home.

They’re also a great way for kids to release all that pent up energy, tire them out while getting fresh air and exercise, and get them to take a break from electronic devices. Even better, parents can get in on the fun and spend quality bonding time with the kids.

The first waterslide was introduced in 1923 and was actually a water toboggan. Today’s fun seekers need only go as far their phone to book their South Florida Bounce inflatable waterslide for an end of school summer celebration party.

Sun Protection Done Right

Millions of people flock to sunny locales every year to catch some rays, but many find a painful sunburn instead when they don’t take appropriate precautions. The most important rule everyone should remember is to apply sunscreen anytime they go outdoors. The UVB and UVA rays emitted by the sun are always present, even on cloudy days.

UVB rays are the primary cause of sunburn and play a role in skin cancer, but UVA rays are equally dangerous. They penetrate below the outer skin level, damage DNA, hasten the aging process, and play a significant role in skin cancer. There are a variety of precautions that can be taken to have fun in the sun while minimizing the risk.

Know the Danger Zone

The sun is strongest between 10 a.m.-4 p.m., thus increasing the risk of sunburn. Try finding activities in the shade or in filtered sunlight during those times. Babies age 6 months and younger should be covered and kept in the shade at all times.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen should be applied at least every two hours and every hour by those that are swimming or sweating. The SPF numbers tell how many minutes it will take the sun’s rays to begin reddening the skin, assuming that the sunscreen is applied exactly as directed. Use a high SPF

However, it’s important to understand that the lighter the skin tone, the quicker the skin will turn red. Apply 15-30 minutes before going outdoors and don’t forget to apply lip balm with a minimum of SPF 30.

Sunglasses

Eye protection is particularly important on the beach or on a boat. Sand and water reflect the sun’s rays and increase the potential of damaging eyes and getting sunburned. People have permanently damaged their vision by spending several hours on the water without sunglasses. Choose a pair of chic shades that provide 99-100 percent UV absorption.

Clothing

Long-sleeved shirts and long pants of breathable material provide an added layer of protection. Tightly woven and dark colored clothing block more of the sun’s rays. There are also garments made of specialized sun-protective fabric.

Hats

Accessorize every outfit with a wide-brimmed hat that shades the eyes, face and ears.

Play it Safe

Sunburn is painful, damages the skin, and can lead to skin cancer down the road. Individuals that take certain medications that make them more sensitive to the sun should use additional care. Fun in the sun is even more enjoyable when the proper precautions are taken and sun protection is done right.
